If you are looking for foods inspired by the Jalisco and Guanajuato regions of Mexico, travel no further than Southwest Blvd in Kansas City. La Fonda El Taquito began as the Medina family selling their homemade carnitas recipes in 1972.
Started by Mr. & Mrs. Medina nearly 40 years ago, the couple started La Fonda El Taquito after their retirement due to their love for cooking. Early on, many young students visited for tasty, affordable food.
From their small beginnings to the now large, colorfully decorated atmosphere, Sandy & Maria Medina still run the restaurant began by their family decades ago.
Starting at 17th and Summit, a little hole in the wall seating only 20 people, with a tortilla machine making fresh tortillas every day, grew over time due to its consistently delicious recipes.
The Medina Family’s dedication to their community and it’s rich history led them to their location at 800 Southwest Boulevard. The neighborhood of “Little Mexico” is a staple in Kansas City, and La Fonda El Taquito is a big part of that experience.
We’re proud to say we’re the first restaurant to bring the soft carnitas taquitos to Kansas City. The ever-famous carnitas are made the same way they were in 1972, and will have you coming back for more.
The traditional menu features favorites such as the giant burrito spread and Mexican chili. We welcome you to come and enjoy what La Fonda El Taquito has to offer, and we can’t wait to serve you soon!
The Medina Family’s homemade recipes have remained consistent for 40 years. We’re proud to serve you the best in authentic Mexican food.
